Project Details

While on loan at another institution, the Trike was damaged by a visitor knocking a stanchion into the Trike’s proper right rear body panel. This resulted in a small paint loss to the body panel and a structural brace breaking loose on the underside of the body.

The area of loss was prepped with a reversible barrier coating, infilled to level the loss area to match the finished paint layer, then inpainted to match the original finish of metallic gold with black speckling.

The structural brace that had broken loose from the underside of the Trike’s body was cleaned and prepped for repair. Using fiberglass resin and fiberglass, the brace was rejoined to the body panel in the same manner it had originally been bonded to the body to appear original.

A Conservation Assessment is a vital tool for ensuring the long-term preservation of cultural heritage. It helps institutions make informed decisions about how to best care for their collections, ensuring that they remain accessible to the public for generations to come.
